Foamy soap. It’s like whipped cream or a cloud on your hands. What’s not to love about that! Hand washing is not necessarily something people look forward to doing, especially these days, when it seems like we are constantly washing our hands, but it is a great habit so why not make the hand soap feel good and smell great. You don’t have to spend a fortune because you can make your foaming hand soap refill.

Can you turn liquid soap into foaming hand soap?

Yes, you can make your own foaming hand soap refill at home today with  just a 4 simple things

Add the concentrated soap to the dispenser, then add the water. Do not fill completely with water. Leave some room at the top to accommodate the aerator on the foaming soap pumper.Add about 20 drops of your favorite essential oils and screw the pump on. That’s it. You just made your own foaming hand wash!

Foaming hand soap refills are widely available now in stores and online. Target (Method brand), Bath & Body Works, and WasteFreeProducts.com are among many stores that offer a foaming soap.

When we developed our foaming hand soap, it was after numerous customers requests for a refill soap. Our all-natural Hand Wash concentrated paste dissolves to make over a gallon of liquid hand soap. The paste-to-liquid concentrate is dissolved at home using your own water and refilling your own container. What causes liquid soap to foam?

The KEY to making DIY foaming hand soap is the dispenser.

You can not make foaming hand soap with a regular dispenser, it will not work. The foam is actually made by the foaming soap dispenser pump, not the water and ingredients inside the bottle. As the soap mixture is pumped up through the tube and through the dispenser it mixes with air to create a luxurious foam lather.

Not only does a foaming pump make your soap feel like a little cloud of love in your hand, but you will also get more washes per bottle. A little goes a long way and people tend to use less foaming soap when compared to using a standard soap pumper. Saving money and soap, a win-win!

How do you make foaming hand soap like Bath and Body Works?

Bath Body Works has so many scented foaming soap to choose from, it will either make your nose curl or enlighten your senses. Save time by making your own using your favorite (holiday) scented shower gel.

Simple add a tablespoon or two to a foaming dispenser you already have and fill the rest with water. Hot water will accelerate the time it will take to dissolve the thick shower gel. Remember to add your water to the dispenser first only you will get too much foam in the container before you can fill it all the way up with the water.  Leave about an inch room at the top of the dispenser to allow room for the lid to fit properly.

Of course, you can make your own scented foaming hand soap using any liquid by adding your own essential oils blend. During the winter months, I love adding a few drop of pine or balsam fir essential oil to my foaming dispenser for that Christmas pine scent.

How to make plastic-free, zero waste refill soap.

The simplest way to make DIY foaming hand soap with zero plastic bottle waste is to use Tangie Hand Wash concentrated paste. You determine the dilution ratio to water based on how bubbly you like your hand soap. A good starting dilution ratio is to cut the bar into 8 equal parts. Cut the bar in half long way, then cut the bar in half two times on the short side. That will give you 8 equal pieces.

  • Drop one part (about .35 gram) into 2 cups of water.
  • Let sit until completely dissolved in the water.
  • For unscented, add 5 – 10 drops of your favorite essential oils for scent.
  • Fill your container and dispense as usual.

Use this liquid to refill containers you already have. That’s the best part! Works in pumpers, foamers, squeeze bottles, even mason jars.
